BHS Directors and Staff
Band Director
Daniel Person
Mr. Person has been teaching for several years at Boerne HS. His duties include directing the BHS Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, assisting all ensembles at Boerne Middle School North, and directly overseeing the entire high school band program. While at Boerne HS, the Mighty Boerne Greyhound Band has earned exclusively UIL Sweepstakes awards and has qualified for Area contest each competing year. Since coming to Boerne HS, both the BHS Wind Ensemble and the BHS Symphonic Band have earned UIL Sweepstakes awards in Concert and Sight-Reading.

Outside of band, Mr. Person composes and arranges music for video games and media. Mr. Person lives in Boerne, TX with his wife, Julianna Person, daughter, Mackenzie Person, and their three pets.
Assistant Band Director
Alec Miranda
Mr. Miranda serves the Assistant Band Director at Boerne High School. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Texas State University, where he performed in a variety of ensembles including the Bobcat Marching Band, Bobcat Basketball Band, Texas State Horn Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Wind Symphony, and served as the principal horn for the Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Miranda performed with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps on mellophone from 2015-2017. He then performed with the Blue Devils in 2018 and 2019, earning their 19th World Championship with the show “Ghostlight.”
​
Prior to his time at Boerne, he was a marching band technician, private lesson instructor, and substitute teacher for bands in the Austin and Houston areas. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association.
Percussion Director
Berry MCWhorter
Born in Lubbock, TX, Mr. McWhorter has been teaching music in schools since 2017. Prior to becoming a music teacher, Mr. McWhorter completed his bachelors degree in music education from the University of Georgia in 2015 and a masters degree in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017. Mr. McWhorter is a veteran of the US Marine Corps, serving as a percussionist with the Parris Island Marine Band from 2006-2009. Currently, he is one of the top 10 instructors for Music and Arts by enrollment. He is married to his wife, Erin, since 2011 and they have one son, Conley.
Color Guard Director
Hannah Oliver
Hannah Oliver has been in the Color Guard industry for several years, commencing shortly after her 2015 graduation from James Madison High School. In her 4-year journey as a Colorguard member, she not only demonstrated remarkable skills but also emerged as a dynamic leader, nurturing a profound passion for teaching Colorguard.
Post-high school, Hannah took on the role of Assistant Color Guard Director at Performers Academy, returning to her alma mater to inspire the next generation.

In 2018, she became the Color Guard Director at Boerne High School in Boerne, Texas, revitalizing the program and achieving State competition success.
Hannah’s commitment to education and mentorship shines through with resiliency, instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and creativity in her students. Presently, Hannah is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, specializing in Health Science at the University of Texas-San Antonio; her dedication to education and Colorguard remains unwavering and resolute.
Assistant Color Guard Director
Autumn Gamez
My name is Autumn Gamez. I have been in the color guard world for 6 years now. I started color guard my freshman year of 2019 and instantly fell in love. I became color guard captain my junior and senior year.
Right after I graduated from James Madison High School I got an internship with Performers Academy as an office assistant. As an office assistant I was able to learn the business side of color guard and marching band. This lead me to pursue my love of color guard by teaching at Borne high school. I am currently pursuing my degree of Business Administration in Management at San Antonio Collage and transferring to UTSA in spring of 2026. My goal in color guard of to help my students to feel confident in their ability to achieve the work given, and have fun in this program.
Middle School Band Director
Jon Rickman
Jonathan Rickman, a native Texan, has been recognized by many as a top-call Lead Trumpet player in the San Antonio and Austin area, and is a prominent fixture in the area's music scene. Jonathan recieved a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Texas State University in San Marcos.

Jonathan has served as the Director of Bands at Boerne Middle School North in Boerne, Texas for over 15 years, where he was elected the 2015 Teacher of the Year. Jonathan previously served in San Marcos CISD as Director Marching and Jazz, as well conducting as concert. In 2007 he become the Directors of Bands of Devine ISD in Devine, Texas. Jonathan is a member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Music Educator's Association, and the Texas Bandmaster

Jonathan also enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Kara as well as his two children, Kennedi and Presleigh.
Assistant Middle School Band Director
Evan Jose
Evan Jose is the assistant director at Boerne Middle School North.
​
A San Antonio native, Mr. Jose attended Northwestern University, majoring in music performance and education.
There, he enjoyed performing in the various ensembles, working with Mariachi Northwestern, and coaching the Cook County JTDC residents in music production. His primary instrument is percussion, but he loves playing and teaching everything!
Outside of the band hall, you may find Mr. Jose performing at a jazz, country, or mariachi gig. He also enjoys reading at coffee shops and playing chess. Come say hi and ask for a game (you'll probably win; he isn't very good).
